Jakarta, June 26, 2023 – The Less Waste, Less Toxic program was created as part of Agung Peduli’s CSR program, which is being implemented in seven areas: Bali, Bengkulu, Lombok, Jambi, Pekanbaru, Batam, and Lampung. Participants in this clean-up included Agung Concern employees, local governments, environmental communities, and surrounding communities, totaling over 100 participants at each location.
The locations selected for this clean-up are those that lack adequate waste management services. Therefore, this activity is expected to inspire and educate participants to protect the environment and dispose of waste properly.

According to Indonesian domestic waste statistics, plastic waste ranks second as the largest waste producer, accounting for 5.4 million tons per year, or 14 percent of total waste production. This poses a significant threat to Indonesia, as plastic waste takes a very long time to decompose, and some may even fail to decompose at all. In Indonesia’s oceans, there is a vast amount of plastic waste that has polluted the marine ecosystem. For example, the large amount of microplastics found in fish consumed daily. This is because fish in the sea consume plastic waste, polluting the marine ecosystem. To mitigate this growing pollution, one effort to address this phenomenon is through concrete clean-up activities followed by education on organic and inorganic waste management.

Forms of Activities Such as:

  1. Invite the community and local government to conduct cleanups at locations contaminated with plastic waste. 2.
  2. Process organic waste using composting.
  3. Provide training for participants on processing inorganic waste and plastic waste.
  4. Recycle plastic waste collected during cleanups into new products.
  5. Promote this activity on social media.

Activity Objectives:

  1. Cleaning up contaminated areas.
  2. Educating the public about environmental protection.
  3. Improving community skills in managing organic and inorganic waste.
  4. Inspiring the wider community to participate in environmental protection.

The ‘Less Waste Less Toxic’ CSR program was successfully implemented in seven selected operational areas. The activity, involving a total of 897 participants, collected 1.86 tons of waste. Through measurable calculations (Social Return on Investment / SROI), the program provided a benefit value of 71% for participants and local residents. Based on these three indicators, we, as the organizers, assess that the ‘Less Waste Less Toxic’ CSR program was implemented successfully, as it had a broad positive impact on various stakeholders involved.
